Geneva International Airport's Main Facilities

Geneva International Airport's Main Facilities
The services and facilities at Geneva International Airport have just been updated as part of a CHF 51 million investment programme. The project has seen each level of the passenger terminal experience renovations and this has only added to the number of things there are to do for people as they wait for flights.
At present 55 airlines operate over 1,000 flights a week that leave the airport and around a hundred charter airlines. The number of destinations covered by this flight network is over 120 and aside from just Europe there are frequent services to Asia, North America, the Middle East and Africa. In 2010 alone there were 177,000 aircraft movements with 12 million people making use of the airport and by 2020 passenger growth is due to be in the region of 14.5 million people. By 2015 the construction will be finished on the major East Wing project which is costing CHF 300 million and will provide access for large aircraft

Getting to and leaving the airport
Public Transport
The airport is only three miles to the north of the city and so there are several options to get to and from the terminal. Public transport is very efficient with both bus and trains leaving less than every 15 minutes and after picking up your bags passengers can even get a free ticket from a special machine near the carousel. Also the Geneva Transport Card is available from hostels, hotels and campsites which provides tourists with free public transport and visitors can find out more information from where they're staying or contact Geneve Tourisme. Trains can also be taken directly from the airport to destinations around Europe.
Ski Resort Connections
A selection of ski resorts can also be accessed by train. Coach companies run services to the ski resorts as well, with regular bus connection to Villars, Verbier, Crans/Montana, Saas Fee, Tasch and Zermatt in Switzerland. For travel to the popular French resorts,

such as Meribel, Val D'Isere, Courchevel and Val Thorens, reservations generally need to be made in advance in order to get a seat on the coach. For some of the other destinations such as Chamonix, Flaine and Les Gets, it's possible to pick up a ticket at the airport on the same day as departure and this can be purchased within the international sector in arrivals, at the counter for Tourism information/coach station'.
Private Transport
Taxis are readily available from arrivals or there are also all the leading car hire firms in both the Swiss and French sector. Rental cars should be returned to the same sector however to avoid having to incur a charge. Numerous hotels run shuttle services, some of which need to be prebooked but the Crowne Plaza Geneva, Express by Holiday Inn, Movenpick Geneva, NH Geneva Airport Hotel and the Starling Geneva Hotel & Conference Center all run free services every 20 minutes.
Facilities
There are 80 restaurants, cafes and shops which are open all week and the shops offer all the typical goods you'd expect from an airport. Outlets for snacks, chocolates, clothing, music and kids toys are all represented and there are a few stores by famous Swiss watch makers as well as places for souvenirs. Duty free is stocked with the usual cosmetics, perfumes, cigarettes and alcohol but there is also a store in arrivals where passengers can still buy duty free items which is near the baggage hall.
The airport also has free WiFi in all areas and there is a nursery for children with a playground and also an area for some quiet time. Other facilities such as showers, a post office, dry cleaning, hairdressing and money exchange can all be found within the terminal.
